Land of adventure around the Weser River

Nature at its best - for everyone to discover in their own way. Beach lovers sunbathe on the coast and cyclists find an extensive network of routes not just along the Weser dyke. There are cycle paths and footpaths criss-crossing Cuxland’s landscape of forests, moors and sandy heathland, where visitors can explore varied scenery on all of 840 kilometres of cycle paths.

And for those keen on sailing, the Weser estuary at Bremerhaven and the Elbe estuary at Cuxhaven provide optimal conditions for trips out to the North Sea islands. Nordenham also boasts a well-located marina. Visitors in Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven can set out for Helgoland, Germany’s only island in the open sea. While some are happy to enjoy sport on the beach and in the water by themselves, others have fun in the summertime getting involved in tournaments for beach volleyball, beach soccer, beach basketball or beach handball. Whether tennis, golf, squash or inline skating, the opportunity to be on the move is never far away. In the new “Watt’n Bad” bathing complex on the Wurster North Sea coast, those keen on swimming can take to the water regardless of tides, and while they are at it enjoy views of the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Or take time to have festival fun. The region features events throughout the year and provides cultural attractions that are interesting not just on rainy days in North Germany. Highlights here are the German Emigration Centre and the Klimahaus 8° Ost climate museum in Bremerhaven, appealing to visitors from Germany and abroad. The Weser River region entices locals and tourists across its length and breadth, with special attractions that include the new Windforce 10 museum, the Ritzebüttel Castle in Cuxhaven, ecclesiastical treasures in Nordenham, the works of famous organ builder Arp Schnitger in Wesermarsch, and the child-friendly zoo by the sea in Bremerhaven.

Our festivals are as different as the people who celebrate them with us. These events attract thousands of visitors throughout the entire region.
